MEMORY B(L)ANKS Exhibition - Mock up

Today I showcased a practice piece to experiment with my ideas for the Memory Blanks exhibition at the Axis Art Center in Crewe on June 6th. The menue consisted of : Banana Meatloaf, Ginger Beer, Honey Cakes, Spam and Jell-o Refreshers. The aesthetics were completely inspired by that of the 1940’s and World War 2 Rationing.

To set the scene - Vera Lynn 1940’s music echoed in the background, brown paper packaging was being ripped open to reveal War time inspired food within it. An abundance of discussion and reminiscing of grandma’s memories was had.

Leaving nothing more than the memory of the event and the remains of brown paper packaging and scraps behind.

This piece focuses on the conversation and memories that can be prompted through choreographing and setting up an event/experience with food, by looking at the link between food and feeling here it shows the importance of social interaction and the connection a food experience can have with the unconscious mind.

Mid Crit - Exhibition Preparation

On Monday 28th March we have been asked as part of our mid way crit to exhibit work in progress as part of our final major project. This will be held at Leeds College of Art and in our studio areas for a maximum of two days where critical feed back will be given from 1st and 2nd year students.
I intend on doing a mock up, down sized practice piece relating to the food event I will be showcasing for the Memory Blanks Exhibition at the Axis Art Center in Crewe on June 6th 2011.
The idea is based around World War 2 food, rationing, companionship and sharing - and the memories such an experience has in relation to food.
I have began preparing the unusual recipes and 1940’s styled atmosphere with products and memorabilia.
