Here are some images of playful text ideas for my Book layout…

Design for front cover of Eating Design book..

For my Final Major Show in June 2011 I intend on displaying a book incorporating my Foodie Events and Eating Design concepts. This book will be a collaborative effort, designed my myself and Richard Chappelow - the founder of Fonica Magazine.

The image seen here proposed for the front cover is a portrait of myself painted by someone who was inspired by ArtyFarty Cooking’s concepts. I think it is a great reflection of my self and my work through the viewers interpretation.

Ideas and Layout for ‘Elegant Anarchy’ Food Event

Easter Food Event Success!!!

ArtyFarty Cooking aims to re-design the way we consume food in contemporary Western Culture. This event encompassed the whole eating experience using cultural influences along with emphasizing the strong link between food and feeling.
Focussing on the vast cultural influences seen at LS6 Café, a traditional Greek theme was prominent, with an abundance of Greek music and the exploration of traditional Easter rituals, but with a modern twist!

According to the Greek religious calendar, Easter is the most important festival of the Greeks, hence huge celebrations are marked to make the occasion more special. Friends and families come together to eat, drink, talk and dance. Traditionally eggs are dyed red (red is seen as the colour of life as well as a representation of the blood of Christ). But these important rituals have been forgotten in Western Culture today due to mass marketing and of course because of chocolate Easter eggs.
On arrival the visitors were presented with a palette incorporating modern chocolate eggs along with paint brushes and only RED food ingredients to represent Greek traditions and to evoke the common childhood memory of decorating Easter eggs. Visitors were then free to decorate and eat the eggs in whichever way they pleased using only the ingredients provided (the more playful the better).

This innovative eating experience used cultural influences to encourage celebration, evoke memories and enforce an enhanced involvement with food which is today not celebrated as it should be.

With the same passion and practise direction to change the way we experience food (from the preparation to the eating), Play.Cook.Design and ArtyFarty Cooking are putting their heads together in a collaborative effort to come up with a product/products for a limited time at The Bowery Cafe in Leeds.
Play.Cook.Design uses design as a medium to create new and innovative PLAYFUL cooking utensils, with the social aspects of cooking in mind they create products making the prepartion of food more interesting and fun.
With my concepts and their original design approach a middle ground will be found to create products that challenge the use of food to its upmost levels…

Event Choreographer

My aim going forward is to choreograph a range of events challenging traditional eating rituals today. The ideas will develop around the chosen space/exhibition/brief it will incorporate historical and cultural influences highlighting and exploring issues regarding food which have possibly been forgotten due to mass marketing today. Each event will be participative and completely audience driven, my intentions are to create new eating experiences with foods enticing the senses and exploring social bonds. If you are interested in being a part of these events then please contact me via email at laurenrose30@hotmail.co.uk. xxx
